Description

The Kubernetes LTS working group discusses creating a common place for maintaining patches to core Kubernetes beyond regular support periods 0:36-0:48. This would provide a coordinated space for distributors who are already maintaining these patches independently 1:50-1:56.

Key Takeaways:
• The goal is to have a community location for maintaining patches to core Kubernetes only, not dependencies like etcd or runc 1:15-1:25
• There's debate about implementation approaches: separate repository, branches, or simply sharing patch folders 4:30-4:55
• Participants agree on the core goal of patch sharing but disagree on testing requirements and ownership structure 16:19-16:23
• The group suggests starting small with minimal requirements rather than making large commitments upfront 34:01-34:05
• The Security Response Committee is proposed as a potential owner since they already coordinate vulnerability fixes 46:35-46:46

The group plans to refine the proposal with clearer goals and non-goals for future discussion 44:08-44:12.

All right, everybody. Uh, this is the April 8th working group LTS meeting. Half the people are exhausted from getting back from CubeCon and half the people are refreshed and having a quiet week while everyone else was gone to CubeCon. Uh, so we're going to kick things off and Micah was going to talk through some of the things from the proposal that we talked about last time. All right. Yes, thanks. Um, yeah, so I I missed the last time. Um, but uh I think It sounds like uh there's a lot of like good feedback on just the the idea here. I think the the way that I would summarize this is the the goals here are really to like have a common place in the Kubernetes project for interested parties to contribute patches and and maintain those patches. Um it's not for um it's not it would be very we…
