Source: YouTube · Patrick Boyle · published Nov 18, 2022 · 17:24
The video details the extraordinary mismanagement at FTX under Sam Bankman-Fried, with the new CEO calling it the worst corporate failure he's seen in 40 years 1:59.
Key Takeaways:
• FTX lacked basic financial controls, with no accounting department, no accurate list of bank accounts or employees, and using unsecured email for digital asset security keys 6:18
• The company used shockingly unprofessional practices like approving payments with personalized emojis on a chat platform 7:49
• FTX had a $4.1 billion loan to Alameda Research, with $3.3 billion going to Bankman-Fried personally, while only $740 million was found against $9 billion in customer deposits 10:20
• A jurisdictional battle has emerged between Delaware and Bahamas bankruptcy proceedings, with allegations that the Bahamian government improperly accessed FTX's systems after bankruptcy 15:54
The video criticizes major VC investors who poured billions into FTX without proper due diligence, charmed by what was ultimately a catastrophic lack of business experience 16:30.
