Description

The European economy is deepening into a recession, disrupting global financial flows through the euro-dollar system and increasing risks for the US dollar and other economies. 0:02

Key Takeaways:
• European PMIs have fallen below 50, with France’s composite PMI dropping to 44.8, signaling severe contraction in manufacturing and services 2:32.
• 23% of European banks’ funding is in foreign currency, primarily US dollars, sourced via US-based affiliates through repo and commercial paper 3:00.
• The euro-dollar system, critical for global liquidity redistribution, is now strained as European economic weakness disrupts cash and collateral flows, affecting Japan and China 4:04.
• Unsecured repo markets, especially non-centrally cleared, carry high counterparty risk and leverage, amplifying liquidity stress when European banks face funding constraints 13:16.

European economic weakness is not isolated—it globally synchronizes financial stress by undermining the euro-dollar system’s circulation of liquidity and collateral.
