AMD has launched a server-qualified Zen 5 EPYC platform in an AM5 form factor, targeting home labs, edge computing, and small-to-medium businesses with efficient, low-power, and cost-effective solutions 0:15. This platform offers 6–16 core CPUs, up to 256 GB of DDR5-5600 ECC unregistered memory, and robust PCIe Gen 5 support, making it ideal for virtualization, file sharing, and physical server workloads 1:00.
Key Takeaways:
• The platform is fully qualified for Windows Server 2025 and supports virtualization with up to 2 VMs on a 16-core setup, ideal for small file or print servers 1:22.
• It features a 28 PCIe Gen 5 lane layout (with 8 lanes dedicated to Gen 4) and includes a built-in Broadcom 25 Gbps dual-port interface, supporting high-bandwidth cloud gaming and remote desktop streaming 14:00.
• The Gigabyte MC13 board supports MCIO (non-jank PCIe lanes), enabling flexible expansion for U.2 drives or PCIe devices without slot degradation or Gen 5 signal loss 13:27.
• It includes full out-of-band management via IPMI, dual 1 Gbps and 25 Gbps interfaces, and NCSI headers for third-party adapter integration 19:42.
• Memory runs at DDR5-3600 with CL46 latency at 256 GB, which is serviceable for most workloads despite higher latency than lower-density kits 17:50.
This platform delivers reliable, scalable, and affordable compute for physical bare-metal deployments, especially where power efficiency and out-of-band management are critical. While not designed as a desktop replacement, it bridges the gap between consumer and enterprise workloads in cost-sensitive environments [21

128 cores, 192 cores in this form factor. AMD has uh left us behind. They've forgotten. They've forgotten us. Zen 5 in this form factor. No, no, they haven't. These are AMD Epic in an AM5 form factor. This is a Zen 5 refresh. This isn't the first time that AMD has done this. This is the second time, but I've got the new version of the MC13 board from Gigabyte. And we're going to take a look because Epic in this form factor, 16 cores, 128 gigs of memory, 192 gigs of memory, 256 GB of memory in this form factor in a server qualified platform. Yeah, AMD can do it. It makes sense if you think about it. If you do anything with Home Lab, you know how much you can get done with six, eight, 16 cores. And the full lineup here includes a whole bunch of CPUs from six to 16 cores, including one with V…
