Can AI Really Reverse Engineer Malware? | Claude Desktop, MCP & Reverse Engineer Anything
Source: YouTube · Malware Research Diary · published Oct 13, 2026 · 52:33
The presenter evaluates AI/MCP tools like "Reverse Engineering Anything" (REA) with Claude for malware analysis, concluding the choice depends on your objective: fast incident response, reporting, or deep understanding 2:05-2:34. He remains cautious despite being impressed by AI's speed deobfuscating a JavaScript loader 50:45-50:59.
Key Takeaways:
• Match tooling to objective: blue-team triage needs fast IOC extraction (sandbox, C2 domains), reporting needs moderate depth, and full understanding requires manual analysis 2:38-4:31.
• Over-automation erodes reversing skills; he avoids MCP tools and uses ChatGPT only for quick assembly help, since AI function selection can hallucinate and produce false positives 1:26-2:02, 11:48-12:48.
• Running REA/Claude on live malware is risky: info stealers could capture Claude configs and exfiltrate to C2, and your IP/account data is exposed to the cloud 13:32-14:51.
• The demo was impressive: Claude analyzed a multi-stage obfuscated loader (RC4, base64, AES) producing C2 details and keys in ~30 seconds — work taking ~30 minutes manually 33:21-34:01.
• For quick incident response, a sandbox detonation yields similar conclusions faster; static analysis adds little for packed/obfuscated binaries 29:12-31:08.
He remains conflicted: the technology is impressive, but he values walking through malware step-by-step to build signature-writing skills, and plans to share his own configuration-extraction tools 50:59-52:07.

Hello everyone. Welcome back to another session in um mware research. Um today I thought I um talk about using AI and MCP to see if I um use it. Right. So um so for for for quick um is that I do not use any MCP at all. Um and the reason for it is I just like to be in control and and analyzing things manually. Um everything is just through you know the the manual process. I do use AI to um like chat GPT to copy and paste some of the um assembly code or disassembly code to um help me um process it or analyze it. Um these are you know being instead of spending um 5 minute 10 minute to um building something um using jet GPT um to solve the provide the information quickly is is very helpful um but you know it's like shouldn't I be using MCP to speed things up a little bit maybe um um but right …
