Description

The Kubernetes working group is discussing an eviction request API with a cap freeze approaching 0:05. The API introduces eviction interceptors that allow components to hook into pod termination lifecycle events 1:45 and includes a new "target" field that could potentially be extended beyond pods to other resources 3:56.

Key Takeaways:
• The API introduces "soft" eviction type as default, allowing interceptors unlimited time to handle termination gracefully 9:14
• There's debate about making the API pod-specific versus generic to support future extensions like PVCs 5:00
• Naming conventions use pod UID to avoid conflicts when pods are recreated with same name but different UID 26:42
• The API limits interceptors to 30 per domain and 70 total to prevent excessive pod object size 33:53

The team faces pressure to finalize the API before the cap freeze while addressing design questions about extensibility and implementation details 0:24.

Sources:

  • 0:05 Introduction to working group and cap freeze timeline
  • 1:45 Explanation of eviction interceptors functionality
  • 3:56 Discussion about target field design
  • 9:14 Details about soft eviction type

Yeah. Hi, welcome to the working group note life cycle. Uh today's octo October 13th and uh we have two topics on the agenda. So I will start first with mine my topic uh because it's uh it concerns uh the eviction request cap and we have uh the the cap freeze is on Thursday slash Friday this week. So there is not much time uh to actually uh push this forward. Uh so we have like some a couple of conversation points and like I I think like basically the like the main uh like issue is like this is like a very big new API and uh it comes with a lot of scrutiny and like to see like if we are doing things right. So yeah, so we have like some discussions in the cap. I will quickly go through the API and then uh uh we can talk uh about some of the points uh that might uh like need some um like bet…
