Description

BLUF: The creator documents the exhausting but rewarding experience of delivering a Black Hat training on fault injection and managing a DEF CON booth, highlighting the logistical challenges and social dynamics of Las Vegas security conferences. 2:10-2:30

Key Takeaways:
• The creator justifies flying business class for the long haul from Germany, noting that being well-rested is crucial for professional performance and that the training revenue helps offset the high travel costs. 1:36-1:51
• Accommodations near the Mandalay Bay, such as the Luxor and Horseshoe, are recommended for their proximity to the Black Hat and DEF CON venues, though the extreme heat and artificial environments of Las Vegas create significant cognitive dissonance. 3:32-3:45
• The Black Hat training involved teaching applied fault injection using specialized hardware like the "glitch wallet" (a modified Trezor) containing real Bitcoin, which served as a prize for the first participant to successfully recover the seed. 21:17-22:07
• During DEF CON, the team operated a self-paced glitching workshop in the Embedded Systems Village, providing local workstations and hardware kits to attendees, which proved to be a popular and successful engagement strategy. 35:43-36:04
• The trip concluded with a mix of industry networking events, such as the Google 0x0G conference, and personal exploration of Las Vegas attractions like Area15 and the Pinball Museum, though the creator expressed a strong desire to return home after two weeks of constant socialization. 29:02-29:13

The vlog serves as both a travel diary and a professional recap, offering insights into the behind-the-scenes effort required to produce and deliver high-level security education at major conferences.

I gave my first professional
training at Black Hat and a DEF CON. We were running our Hextree booth
again where I met a lot of you in person, but if you have never been to
Black Hat or DEF CON or you want to hear my new opinions on Las Vegas,
or you're wondering about how it is to give a professional training,
then keep watching. In this video, I am going to
share all my impressions and new experiences from this trip. I was flying in from Germany and
my first stop was Amsterdam. Just landed in Amsterdam,
but I over three hours here and when I got off the plane and had
mobile internet again, I had hundreds of notifications and
kept getting new messages because Harsh and S1r1u5 and Rahul from
Hacktron were trying to exploit Slack with Imagick and actually succeeded.
So me waiting for the nex…
