Description

The speaker presents on their journey into understanding graph theory, motivated by the technical foundation of BloodHound and the desire to overcome their own knowledge gaps through public presentation.

Key Takeaways:
• The speaker joined Spectre Ops two years prior and initially understood only the basics of BloodHound 0:15.
• An interview with Andy Robbins revealed that BloodHound's efficiency is rooted in graph theory, described as "graph theory 101" 0:26.
• Faced with the term "graph theory," the speaker chose to research and present the topic rather than simply ask questions, using the talk to solidify their understanding 0:35.
• This decision highlights a common professional development strategy: leveraging public speaking to force deep comprehension of complex technical concepts 0:48.

This approach demonstrates how confronting unfamiliar technical jargon through active learning and sharing can accelerate professional growth in cybersecurity.

Sources:

  • 0:15 Introduction to the speaker's background and initial knowledge of BloodHound.
  • 0:26 Reference to Andy Robbins' interview explaining the graph theory basis of BloodHound.
  • 0:35 The motivation behind choosing to present on graph theory rather than ask about it.
  • 0:48 Reflection on the value of presenting complex topics to strangers for better understanding.

[Music] This talk is called I don't know what graph theory is and at this point I'm too afraid to ask and uh the title was actually my motivation to get into this. So a couple years ago is when I got hired on to Spectre Ops. And uh I understood the basics of Blood Hound, but uh Andy Robbins has a interview where he talks about uh sort of the motivation for how that Blood Hound came about and uh his friend says that it's sort of like graph theory 101. So getting into that, getting into how they make Blood Hound a little bit more efficient. Um the the term got thrown around quite a bit and I just sort of was you know I was like you know uh I could either ask or I could present about all the information a bunch of in in front of a bunch of strangers. So uh I took the ladder in terms of just g…
